Daal puri/ Flat bread with Bengal gram lentil stuffing by Sohini & Abhrajit Chatterjee

Daalpuri is, I believe a Bangladeshi speciality. Previously there used to be many a shops who would sell the Daal Puris, but now it’s almost rare to come by a shop selling these amazing puris, soft as butter and delicious. Thus here is the recipe for Daal Puris . I had learnt this from Sohini & Abhrajit Chatterjee. Sohini Chatterjee is a teacher and Abhrajit is an Engineer.

Ingredients –

  • Chholar Dal/ Bengal Gram Lentil
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Green Chilies
  • Wheat flour
  • Suji/Rawa/ Semolina
  • Kalo jeere/kalonji seeds

Preparation –

  • Soak the Chholar Dal or Bengal Gram for 12 hours
  • Make a paste of it with green chilies
  • Heat oil in a pan and saute the Chholar dal paste along with salt till it becomes dry.
  • Make a dough of wheat flour and the rawa in equal proportions and add kalo jeere in it
  • make small balls out of this dough and stuff the same with this stuffing
  • Roll out round shapes and deep fry them
  • Serve hot with a alur torkari/ Potato Curry
