Posto Tomato Chutney

Posto Tomato chutney is a very  tasty condiment which can be used with a lot of fries and even with plain rice and dal. I always make a great jar full of tomato and posto chutney to be had at home. In case you too want to do the same, store in a nice airtight glass jar in the refrigerator, and consume within two weeks since this is preservative free. Before consuming, take out whatever amount you may need in a bowl and let it reach room temperature.

Ingredients –

  • Red chilli
  • Poppy seeds
  • Tomato
  • Salt
  • Lemon

Preparation –

  • Take one or two dry red chillies
  • Dry roast them
  • When the chillies are almost half done, add the poppy seeds to these.
  • When the chillies and the poppy seeds starts to make crackling noise, then take them off from the heat.
  • Now roast a whole tomato. Dry roast it.
  • Keep the juices which comes out of the tomato
  • Now mix the poppy seeds and the tomato juices well
  • Grind everything together preferably on a grinding stone (or in a blender using as little water as possible). It is best to make the poppy paste with the juice of the tomato only for the sake of taste and also for consistency.
  • Add a dash of salt and some lemon juices to it

Store this concoction in an airtight glass jar and refrigerate
