Basic Trifle (with inputs from Tahiti)

Serve this classic dessert in a clear glass bowl for visual effect. The trick is to make the layers look pretty when viewed through the glass sides of the bowl. Push your jam and fruit layers to the sides of the bowl first, and then go back and fill the middle.

Ingredients –

• Ready-made pound cake: 1 (or you can make your own)

• Jam/preserve of your liking

• Fruits (canned or freshly cut)

• whipped cream

• Custard

Preparation –

• Cut the cake into thin strips.

• Arrange in a layer in a glass bowl.

• Top with jam or preserve. (Use high-quality jams or preserves for topping the cake layers).

• Now arrange the fruit in a layer. You can use canned fruits or cut seasonal fruits.

• Top with a layer of thick whipped cream.

• Add another layer of cake.

• Cover this with any custard of your choice.

• Then repeat the layer of fruits and cream.

• Cover that with another layer of cake.

• Repeat as long as the bowl is not full.

• Then on the final layer of cake, put cream and garnish with fruits.

• Serve chilled.
