Tri-colour cake by Anusree Banerjee

This dessert not only looks good it also tastes good with the medley of tastes and flavours that the different layers bring.

Anusree Banerjee is a passionate baker, homemaker and mom to twin girls. She is also an IT project manager.

Layer 1 ingredients:

  • 1 box 4x sugar
  • 1 lb. plain or cake flour
  • 3 sticks butter
  • 6 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp. Vanilla Essence
  • First sift the sugar
  • Next fill in an empty box with the sifted flour
  • Place the butter, cream and sifted sugar in to a mixer.
  • Start adding one egg at a time to the above mixture as it mixes
  • Finally add the vanilla and the flour
  • Take a tube pan to grease and flour it
  • Bake the cake mixture for layer 1 at 325 degrees for about one and a half hours.

Tip: I usually always bake the cake in the dish in which I’ll set the whole thing. The cake rises only an inch and half, so I use less batter. The above mentioned cake recipe is for a proper cake so do not take exact measurement..Reduce everything.

Layer 2 Ingredients:

  • Packaged custard powder

Preparation:

  • Make custard according to package directions.
  • Once again only so much that it is 2 – 3 inched above the cake. Or if you have a deep fruit bowl then it is awesome. I usually always make the plain custard but you can choose to make any.

Layer 3 Ingredients:

  • Jell-O: one package

Preparation:

  • Make a Jell-O of your choice according to package directions. I mostly make Orange Jell-O as I love the flavour.

Assembling:

  • Either use the same dish in which the cake is baked or use a deep fruit bowl or any deep serving dish.
  • First put the cake.
  • If you are using the baking dish (i use pyrex rectangular dish) the you will not have to cut the cake. But if using any other dish cut the cake accordingly and layer.
  • Then Pour the custard on top of it.
  • Wait for 20 – 30 mins let the custard set.
  • Sprinkle dry fruits if you wish to.
  • Finally pour the jello on top and carefully refrigerate it after covering. The jello will become firm and everything will set together.
