Bata Macher Alu Begun er Jhol/ Labeo Bata in potato & brinjal curry
Bata/ Labeo Bata is a delicious sweet-water fish that tastes great in this light, soupy broth that is paired with potatoes and eggplants. This recipe is a lunch staple at my home.
Ingredients:

Bata machh
-
Bori / Small Lentil dumplings(optional)

Eggplant (diced)
-
Potatoes (diced)
-
Cumin paste
-
Chilli paste
-
Turmeric
-
Salt
-
Water
-
Coriander leaves (optional)
- Oil for cooking (preferably mustard oil)
Preparation –

Fry the fishes and keep aside
-
Fry the bori and keep aside (if using)

Heat oil in a kadhai
-
Fry the eggplant pieces and keep aside
-
Fry the potatoes and keep aside
-
Add the cumin and chilli pastes and cook the masala well
-
Add the salt and turmeric and cook for a little more
-
Add the water
-
Then add the fried boris and cover
-
When the potatoes and bori gets cooked, add the eggplants and bring to a boil
-
Now add the fishes and bring to a boil again
-
Sprinkle chopped coriander leaves from top and take it off the flame to serve
