Bele Maachh er Jhaal/ Scribbled Goby Fish in spicy gravy
Bele Mach or Scribbled Goby Fish is a fish pretty common among Bengali’s. This fish can be prepared in various ways. This version of the recipe is a bit spicy but can be easily digested as well. The delicious dish can be a prepared if you are having guests over who just love to have different kinds of fish; or as a palate changer for your everyday meal.
Ingredients:
- Bele Maachh/ Scribbled Goby Fish
- Turmeric Powder
- Lime Juice
- Salt
- Mustard Oil
- Potatoes
- Coriander Powder
- Chilli Powder
- Onion Paste
- Garlic Paste
- Chopped Tomatoes
- Slit green chillies
- Chopped Cilantro
Method of Preparation:
- Smear the fish with turmeric, lime juice and salt. Fry both sides in heated mustard oil and keep aside.
- Peel and slice potatoes to thin vertical pieces.
- Heat mustard oil in a kadhai
- Coat the potatoes with turmeric and salt then fry the potatoes in the heated oil and set aside.
- Fry onion paste, garlic paste then add chopped tomatoes.
- Now add the powdered spices – turmeric, coriander, and chili as well as green chillies. Add salt.
- Then add a little warm water along with the fried potatoes and let it cook properly.
- Finally add in the fish, more slit green chilies and finely chopped cilantro.
- Add a dash of lime juice after removing from heat and serve piping hot with steamed rice.
