Dhonepata Maachh / Cilantro Fish

Recently I was a feeling under the weather, thanks to the season change. I also lost appetite and the taste for food alongside. I was craving for something tangy, yet something that is easy to digest. What could be a better answer to my need that cilantro?! With nearly non existent cholesterol and calories and high quantity of vitamins, fibre, and significant minerals like potassium and magnesium, cilantro seems to be a wonder herb. This dish can be cooked with any white fish like carp, basa, pomphret, tilapiya, catfish, halibut. I mostly make with rohu. But you can take your pick. Easy to cook, and finger licking taste makes this recipe a winner in every situation.

 

Ingredients:

  • Fish ( I have used rohu)
  • Cilantro / Coriander Leaves
  • Green Chillies
  • Garlic
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Lemon/ Lime Juice
  • Cooking Oil
  • Turmeric Powder

 

Method:

  • Make a paste of the cilantro, garlic and green chillies
  • Smear the fish with turmeric and salt
  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Fry the fish and keep aside
  • In the same oil, add the cilantro-garlic-chilli paste
  • Cook till a nice aroma emanates
  • Add salt, turmeric and a little sugar to balance the taste
  • Cook till oil separates
  • Add very little warm water and let the concoction come to boil
  • Add the fried fish
  • Turn down heat, cover and simmer for a while
  • Turn off heat, open lid and add the lime or lemon juice
  • Serve with steamed rice
