Dal Banjari

The daal banjari recipe is a simple concoction that becomes delicious with the right blend of spices and nutritious with the richness of the lentils. This single pot dish comes to the rescue when cooking is intended to be kept simple, yet no compromise on taste is wanted.
• About 1 cup cook urad dal (split black lentils with skin)
• About 1/2 cup Bengal gram dal (chana dal)
• turmeric powder
• 1 onion, finely sliced
• 2 to 4 cloves
• About 1 inch stick cinnamon
• 1 or 2 whole red chilies
• 2 tsps ginger-garlic paste
• A couple of green chilies, finely chopped
• 1 tsp. chili powder
• ghee
• salt to taste
• A handful of finely chopped coriander & ginger for garnishing
• Clean and wash the dal (both chana and urad) together.
• Ina pressure cooker take the dal the turmeric powder, salt and 3 cups of water
• Cook till these are done.
• Take a pan and heat ghee in it
• Add clove, cinnamon, onion and red chilies.
• Keep stirring till the onion turns brown.
• Add the ginger-garlic paste, green chilies, chili powder and sauté for 2 minutes.
• Add this to the cooked dal and boil for 4 to 5 minutes.
• Garnish this with julienned ginger and some coriander leaves.
