Dal Fry by Sohini and Abhrajit Chatterjee

The recipe is from Sohini and Abhrajit’s kitchen. Sohini Chatterjee is a teacher and Abhrajit is an Engineer.

INGREDIENTS:

  • Chana dal (you can also prepare this recipe with a mixture of moong, masoor and tuvar dal)

  • Garlic (chopped)

  • Ginger (chopped)

  • Onion (sliced)

  • Green chili

  • Tomato (chopped)

  • Whole cumin seeds

  • Turmeric

  • Kashmiri red chili powder

  • Chopped coriander

PREPARATION:

  • Boil the dal until about half-done

  • Heat oil in a pan

  • Add chopped garlic and fry till brown

  • Now add the cumin seeds

  • Next add the sliced onion and fry till brown

  • Add chopped ginger, tomato, turmeric and chili powder and fry till the masala cooks

  • Now keep adding a little bit of the water from the boiled dal and keep cooking the masala

  • Next add the boiled dal and bring to a boil

  • Keep cooking till the dal is completely cooked

  • Add salt as necessary

  • Add chopped coriander leaves and take it off the flame
