Hariyali Dal

This dal, as the name suggests is a complete mixture of greens that is vegetables along with masoor dal. It is not only good for health but also extremely tasty with its adequate dose of amchur (dried mango powder) for the tang. Try this dal and I am sure you will love it.

Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 teacups – uncooked masoor dal

• 2 cups – greens (palak, methi and coriander) – cleaned and roughly chopped

• 1 – chopped onion

• 1 teaspoon – cumin seeds

• 2 teaspoons – amchur powder (dried mango powder)

• 1 – chopped tomato

• 1/2 teaspoon – turmeric powder

• 3/4 teaspoon – chilli powder

• 3 tablespoons – ghee

• Salt to taste

To Be Ground Into A Paste :

• 6 – cloves garlic

• 6 – green chillies

• 1″ ginger

Method:

• Boil the dal in 2 cups of water
• Heat ghee in a pan and temper it with onion, cumin seeds and chilies.

• Sauté the greens.

• Once the greens become soft, add the dal along with liquid from the boiling process.

• Now add amchur powder, tomato, turmeric powder, chilli powder. Since we are using both amchur and tomatoes, take care of the quantity of each so that the concoction does not become too sour.

• To this add the already prepared paste and salt and cook for some time

• Turn off heat and cover the pan to allow some standing time.

• Serve hot.
