Niramish Daal Palak/ Pure Veg Lentils with Spinach

Dal Palak (Recipe available here — http://bitebybyte.co.in/lentils/dal-with-palak/) is a favourite at our home, especially in the winter months when fresh green spinach lures us every time we hit the market to shop for vegetables. However, my mother is a pure vegetarian and does not even have onions and garlic, or even masoor dal (red lentils). For her, and people like her with similar dietary needs or preferences, this recipe was devised which has all the richness and texture and is also packed with nutrients.

 

Ingredients

  • Arhar Dal/ Pigeon Peas
  • Salt
  • Green chilies
  • Turmeric
  • Dry Red Chilies
  • Cumin Seeds
  • Coriander seeds
  • Spinach
  • Hing/ Asofoetida
  • Ginger paste
  • Ghee
  • Water

Preparation

  • Boil Arhar dal with salt, turmeric, green chilies and water
  • Temper oil with dried red chilies, cumin seeds, coriander seeds
  • Add chopped Spinach leaves
  • Add Hing and Ginger paste
  • Now add the boiled dal
  • Once it starts to boil, check for salt
  • Add ghee once it’s done
  • Remove from heat to serve with rice or roti
