Chingri Maachher Baura/Shrimp Fritters

Chingri Maachher Baura or Shrimp fritters is a recipe with minimal ingredients that truly captures the flavour of shrimp.  Versatility and shrimp go hand in hand. Anybody who loves shrimp will be able to say that shrimp has a unique and rich flavour. The fritters are as such a burst of textures and taste that shall leave everyone wanting for more.

 

Ingredients

  • Shrimp/Chingri
  • Turmeric powder
  • Salt
  • Oil for frying

 

  • For the batter:

 

  • Gram flour/besan
  • Finely chopped onions
  • Finely chopped green chillies
  • Nigella seeds (kalo jeerey/ kalonji)
  • Water

 

Preparation

  1. Start by marinating the shrimps with turmeric and salt.
  2. Next make a semi thick batter of gram flour (besan), salt, finely chopped onions and green chillies, a pinch of nigella seeds (kalo jeerey) with water
  3. Add the batter to the marinated shrimps.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, and when it starts to smoke, lower the flame
  5. Then add the shrimp mixed batter to the heated oil using a spoon (a heaped spoonful at a time) and fry till both sides are golden brown
  6. As soon as one side is done turn the fritters over one by one
  7. Once both sides turn golden brown and the fritters are completely cooked, take them out of the oil and drain out the excess oil.
