Fish Fry

This is the quintessential Bengali snacks and one of the most popular Kolkata street foods. Its roots lie in English cuisine, tough the Bengalis have adapted it to favour the Indian palate.

Ingredients:

  • Halibut Fillet, 4 pc (any other fish fillet like bhetki or basa etc can also be used)
  • Onion, 1 medium
  • Garlic, 1 clove (optional)
  • Green chilli, 4-5
  • Lemon juice, 2 tbsp
  • Salt
  • Eggs, 2
  • Corn flour
  • Breadcrumbs

Method: 

  • First make a paste of onion, ginger, garlic and green chillies.
  • Add lemon juice to the paste.
  • Marinate the fish fillet with this paste and salt for 1 -1 1/2 hr.
  • Make a batter with eggs and corn flour.
  • Dip the fillets in the batter and cover with breadcrumbs.
  • Fry till golden brown.
  • Serve with salad and sauce of your choice.
