Alu-Matar in a tomato Based Gravy

This is a simple recipe which can be had with roti or paratha at any point of time. This tastes delicious because of the tanginess of tomatoes. In my childhood this was a winter staple when fresh green peas were abundant; but now with the availability of frozen peas round the year, this recipe can come handy whenever you want.
Ingredients –

  • Potatoes
  • Peas
  • Tomatoes
  • Cumin seeds
  • Turmeric powder
  • Chilli powder
  • Salt & Sugar
  • Cooking oil (preferably mustard oil for the tang that it brings)

Preparation –

  • Peel the potatoes and cut them into cubes
  • Heat oil in a pan. Temper with cumin seeds
  • Add the cubed potatoes and fry till red
  • Now add salt,  turmeric & chilli powder and green chillies
  • Cook till the spices are done well
  • Now add the tomatoes and blend them well with the spices
  • Now add a little water
  • Add the peas
  • Let the concoction cook well till the vegetables are done.
