Bari Karala Posto/ Dried Lentil Dumplings & Bitter gourd in Poppy Paste

Because my parents, particularly my mother is a complete vegetarian on certain days, it has always given me added incentive to try out and learn different vegetarian varieties. The Bori Karala Posto is one such. It is an interesting menu to have on a summer afternoon.

Ingredients:

• karola /uchhe/ bitter gourd
• posto bata or pasted poppy seeds
• Potatoes cubed
• tomato puree,
• ghee, bari bhaja but preferable moong dal er bari
• salt
• White Mustard
• Dry red chillies
• White oil
• Turmeric powder
Preparation:
• Heat oil in a pan
• Tamper with white mustard & Dry red chillies
• Add the bitter gourd after taking out the seeds
• Keep stirring and pour a small amount of water
• Cover to cook
• When it softens, add posto paste , tomato puree, turmeric powder and salt & sugar to taste
• Sprinkle water so that it doesn’t burn
• Once done sprinkle the fried bori s and gree
• Cover it for sometime and let it stand
