Capsicum curry with gram flour /Shimla Mirch aur Besan ki Sabji

Surprised? How could capsicum or Shimla Mirch and roasted besan taste good? Well, try it to savour the tangy and spicy taste of this dish. I love experimenting and this is one such dish. The dish It is best served with paratha or roti. It is easy to prepare and sure to earn the maker rave reviews. The spices along with roasted besan, form a mouth-watering dish. The dish is completely dry, without any gravy, where the spices coat the capsicum making the dish almost pickle like. No wonder it is finger licking good!

 

Ingredients –

• Capsicum
• Roasted Gram Flour
• Fennel Seeds
• Cumin Seeds
• Mustard Oil
• Red Chillies
• Onions
• Cumin powder
• Coriander powder
• Garam Masala
• Aamchoor powder./Chaat Masala
• asafoetida

 

Preparation –
• Chop capsicum into medium sliced pieces.
• Dry roast gram flour (about 4 spoons) and keep aside
• Dry roast about 2 tea spoons of fennel seeds along with dry red chilies and dry grind them.
• Now heat mustard oil.
• Temper with cumin seeds, mustard seeds and coriander seeds.
• Add sliced onions and asafoetida.
• Once the onions start to brown add the capsicum.
• Cook well. Add turmeric and salt. You may also add green chilies.
• Keep adding the following powdered spices — cumin, coriander, garam masala.
• When the capsicum is cooked and the masala too, add the fennel seed powder and amchoor (dry mango powder).
• If you don’t have amchoor, try chaat masala.
• Mix it well.
• Now slowly add the gram flour and stir continuously so that it does not form lumps.
• At this stage before adding the besan, if you want you may add some more mustard oil.
• Mix in properly.
• Give the whole thing some standing time, and remove from heat to serve with parathas or roti.
