Ma-in-Law Special Alur Dom

Because just the earlier post was about normal Alur dam recipe I thought I should share the special recipe that my mother –in-law makes. It is a little different cooking procedure wise and tastes a little different too. Why don’t you cook both and check out? Here’s how –

Ingredients –

  • Ingredients for the dry masala – Mix all these well in a dry powder

  • Bay leaves -2

  • Cumin – 20gms

  • Coriander – 20gms

  • Methi (fenugreek) – 10 gms

  • Small Cardamom – 10/12 pcs

  • Darchini (cinnamon) – 15 gms

  • Hing (Asafoetida)

Preparation –

  • Cube potatoes

  • Heat oil in a pan and temper with panch phoron and hing

  • Fry the cubed potatoes till red

  • Add ginger paste,turmeric powder,salt and slit green chillies

  • Stir well

  • Add a little water and also a pinch of sugar

  • Let the potatoes boil well.

  • Add the dry masala, but ensure that the amount is not too much

  • Serve hot
