Patol Posto/ Parwal in Poppy Paste

  • Potol Posto is a variation of alu posto or potatoes cooked in poppy seed paste. It is often chided that Bengalis, more importantly Bengalis of the West Bengal vicinity loves posto or the poppyseed paste a great deal. Those who do not fancy too much of potato may try this.

    Ingredients :

    15 pointed gourds

  • 150 g poppy seeds
  • 2-3 tbsp yoghurt
  • 10-12 green chillies
  • 75 g desiccated coconut or fresh coconut
  • 1 cup grated cottage cheese
  • salt to taste
  • Mustard oil

    Preparation –

  • Wash, peel and cut the pointed gourds into halves lengthwise.

  • Wash and chop green chillies.

  • Grind poppy seeds with a cilantro water to make a paste and keep aside

  • Mix yoghurt, green chillies and coconut paste with poppy seed paste.

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add pointed gourds. Fry for a few minutes.

  • Add poppy seed paste and salt. cook over low heat.

  • Add grated cottage cheese and mix it thoroughly. Sprinkle a few drops of mustard oil for a nice aroma.

  • Serve hot with rice.
