Kadha (immunity booster drink) By Manzilat Fatima

 

Age old concoction called Kadha is an Ayurvedic immunity booster — this one fights against cough and cold. Basil leaves, ginger, turmeric and lime juice form the main ingredients, all other ingredients are optional, can be added or removed as per personal preferences.

Ingredients:

 

Group 1

  • 2 tablespoons Turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon Fennel seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp dry Ginger powder or add 1″ pc of fresh ginger each time while boiling water
  • 8-10 big Cardamoms seeded
  • 2 inch Cinnamon sticks
  • 10-12 Black peppercorns

    Group 2

  • 2 teaspoon tea leaves
  • Basil (tulsi) leaves — a few

Other ingredients:

  • Jaggery or Honey – to taste
  • Lime juice – to taste

 

 

Method:

  • Dry roast all ingredients of Group 1
  • Grind all ingredients of Groups 1 and 2 together, store in a glass bottle.
  • Dosage: Add a tablespoon full of the powdered mixture to a pan filled with water, boil for 5 minutes at least, and add jaggery/ honey and lime juice, strain and stock in a flask. Serve once a day, in small glasses or teacups to all family members to stay healthy.
