Posto bata diye dim er curry/ Egg with poppy seed paste
Posto is a kind of seed that features in various Bengali dishes, the most popular dish being Aloo Posto and Posto Bata. Ingredients
- Boiled Eggs
- Poppy seed/ posto
- Dalchini/Cinnamon Sticks
- Cardamom/ small elaichi
- Salt & Sugar
- Turmeric & Chili powder
- Onion, ginger & garlic paste
- Capsicum and onions — finely chopped
- Mustard Oil for cooking
- Green chillies
- cashew paste (optional)
Preparation –
- Boil the eggs and lightly perforate them
- Sprinkle turmeric, chili powder and salt and smear well
- Lightly fry them in oil. Set aside
- Make a paste of posto/Poppy seed, green chilli,onion, ginger, garlic, dalchini/Cardamom, elaichi/Cardamom with a small amount of water. If you want to add cashew, then add that too.
- Heat oil in a pan & fry chopped onion & capsicum
- Add the prepared paste
- Sauté till oil separates
- Season with salt and sugar
- Add the fried eggs
- Cook for a while.
- Garnish with chillies and serve with steamed rice/ pulao/ paratha.
Note – This is best cooked without water (apart from that added to the spice paste), but if it becomes too dry, then you can add some water.
