Bhindi Masala/Spicy Lady Finger

Okra or lady’s finger is a popular and nutritious vegetable, that can fool many people. The simple vegetable has the power to incorporate numerous spices and create a delectable dish. If you like a little bit of spice, then this is the dish for you. Bhindi masala is a North Indian dish that is mildly spicy and full of rich aromas and flavours. Serve it with paratha or as a side with dal and plain steamed rice. This dish is definitely going to impress all. Bhindi Masala can also be prepared for family’s lunchboxes. You can always adjust the spice level, according to taste.

 

Ingredients

  • Lady’s finger (bhindi) – 500 g
  • Oil to fry
  • Onion paste – 2 medium
  • Tomatoes – 2, chopped
  • Green chilly paste – 2
  • Turmeric
  • Chaat masala – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp
  • Kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves)
  • Salt

 

Preparation

  • Wash the bhindi and slit them lengthwise.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Fry the bhindi and keep aside.
  • Add onion paste, and chopped tomatoes to the oil. Fry well with turmeric, green chilly paste and salt.
  • Once fried, add the bhindi back to the pan and mix well. Add chaat masala and garam masala powder.
  • Add kasuri methi and mix well. Serve with roti/ paratha
