Alu Phoolkopi Diye Katla/Rui Maachh/Carp/Rohu cooked with Potatoes and cauliflower
This is best cooked with fresh cauliflowers that are abundant in the market during the winter months. The freshness of the vegetables adds a zest to the dish and the lightness of it makes it a healthy option as well. If you are like me, you shall polish it off with steamed rice with chopped onions and whole green chillies on the side.
Ingredients:
- Rui/Katla machh (Rohu or any carp)
- Potatoes
- Cauliflower
- Cumin seeds
- Bay leaf
- Green chillies
- Turmeric powder
- Chilli powder
- Cumin powder
- Coriander powder
- Garam masala powder
- Coriander leaves (chopped)
- Green chillies
- Salt
- Sugar
- Oil
Preparation:
- Rub the fish pieces with salt and turmeric and fry
- Keep aside
- Cut potatoes and cauliflower into big chunks and fry
- Keep aside
- Heat oil in a pan and temper with cumin seeds, bay leaf and green chillies
- Mix all the powdered spices and sugar with a little water to form a thick paste
- Add this paste to the pan
- Stir and fry the masala
- Add the vegetables
- Add water and cover
- When the vegetables are almost cooked, add the fish
- Cover and bring to a boil
- Turn flame off and put chopped coriander leaves and green chillies
- Cover for a while and serve with steamed rice.
