Chicken Momo
One of the popular Kolkata foods is chicken momo; although the origin is not in Bengal. Kolkata has always welcomed food from across the globe with open arms and made them their own – momo is one of them. This is a light preparation which is healthy and nutritious.
Ingredients:
For the Stuffing:
- Minced chicken, 250 g
- Equal amount onion, chopped
- Garlic 5 cloves, chopped
- Green chilles according to taste, chopped
- Ginger, chopped (optional)
- Salt
- Soya sauce
- Lemon juice or vinegar
For the Wraps:
- Flour
- Little oil
- Salt
Method:
- Mix all the ingredients of stuffing and keep aside for an hour.
- Mix the flour, oil and salt with water and knead into a dough.
- Make small balls out of the dough, the size of marbles.
- Roll the balls into flat discs.
- Put a spoonful of stuffing on the dough, fold and wet the edges. Press the edged together to seal. The finished momos should be half round in shape.
- When all the momos have been made, steam them for 15-17 mins. Alternately they can be cooked like ravioli in boiling water for 10-12 mins.
- Serve with a dip of your choice — spicy if you like heat!
