Chicken Bharta

I always keep a lookout for recipes that are moderately healthy and is a good accompaniment to rotis. Bengali style curries mostly are good company for rice based dishes. This recipe was adopted during one such quest, and became a hit in my family. Tell us if your family likes it!

Ingredients :

  • 1kg.chicken(Boneless),
  • 4Nos.onion-(med.),
  • 2 eggs,
  • 2 Tomatoes(med.),
  • 2 tsp.garlic paste,
  • 4 tsp.onion paste,
  • 2 tsp.ginger paste,
  • 75 gms. yoghurt(sour)
  • ,2 tsp.chilly powder,
  • salt to taste,
  • 20 gms.poppy-seed,
  • 50 gms. cashewnut and
  • 1cup of milk.

Method :

  • Cut the boneless chicken into 1/2” cubes
  • Saute it in white oil
  • Heat ghee in a pan and fry thinly sliced onions.
  • Add Ginger-Garlic paste to this and keep stirring
  • Once this turns a little red, add the Yogurt
  • Once the masala is done well add salt & chilli powder
  • From before make a paste of Cashew and Poppy seeds mixed with milk.
  • Add this mixture to the pan and keep stirring
  • Add the fried chicken pieces and also add chunks of tomatoes
  • Keep stirring and keep checking if its done.
  • Once done add boiled eggs while serving.
  • Also add nutmeg powder once the cooking is done
  • Before serving add some cream to this. However, this is optional. If serving for a regular meal, I generally avoid it.
  • You may also boil eggs, cut in four vertically and garnish before serving.
