Mutton Cooked with Common Ingredients

Sometimes the most humble of ingredients can create a delectable dish and that is what this recipe is all about. Here we see the all-time favourite red meat being cooked with the usual onion, garlic and ginger along with the famous Indian spice mix called “Garam Masala”. It is bound to create the best mutton curry any day. When you add yoghurt to this extraordinary mix of ingredients, you get a dish that is nothing but amazing. Are you planning lunch or dinner for guests? This can be one of the main courses as it goes well with roti, paratha, naan and rice.

 

Ingredients –

1 kilogram of Goat meat or any red meat of your choice
1 medium to large sized onion (peeled and sliced)
6 Green Chillies (chopped)
1 tbsp. Allspice Garam Masala
1 tbsp. Red Chilli Powder (or to taste)
1 tbsp. Cumin Powde
2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. Ginger Paste
1 tbsp. Garlic Paste
½ cup Fresh Coriander/cilantro Leaves – finely chopped for garnishing
½ cup Fresh Mint Leaves finely chopped for garnishing 
½ cup Plain yogurt
¾ cup of cooking Oil

Preparation –

  • Wash the meat well and keep aside.
  • Mix yoghurt, chili powder, salt, cumin powder, garam masala, ginger paste, and garlic paste
  • Make this mixture into a thick consistency and marinade the mutton in this.
  • Set aside for 2 hours.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add onions and fry till translucent
  • Now add the marinated meat and keep cooking
  • Add approximately 2 cups of water
  • Cover to cook when the water starts to boil
  • Put the oven in low/ medium heat
  • When the meat is done, add about half a cup of water
  • Put the gas in low heat and let it simmer

Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with nan or rot
