Aloor porota / Potato Paratha

Aloor paratha or Alu ka paratha is an extremely popular dish of Northern India. It is a filling and wholesome Indian flatbread with a delicious potato stuffing. Alur Porota is a common breakfast recipe in most Indian households, but you can also have this delicious Indian flatbread as lunch or dinner. You can have it with or without any accompaniments. It is delicious by itself, but you can have it with curd and pickles if you want, or even with a sauce of your choice – ketchup or sweet chilli sauce for example.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes
  • Salt
  • Coriander leaves
  • Green chilies
  • Pepper Powder
  • Roasted Cumin powder (optional)
  • Roasted red chili powder (optional)
  • Flour
  • Oil
  • Lemon juice (optional)
  • Onion & Ginger (finely chopped — optional)

Preparation

  • Knead the flour. Before kneading add salt and oil to the flour. You may mix wheat flour and flour together.
  • Boil the potatoes and peel them
  • Add salt, chopped coriander leaves, chopped green chilies and lemon juice and mix well.
  • If you are adding onion and ginger they need to be very finely chopped and added to this mix as well.
  • Also add the roasted spice powders at this stage.
  • Make small balls of the kneaded flour and fill them up with the mixture
  • For that process, make small round portions and fill them with the mashed potato filling
  • Seal the mouth with a little wet and deft hands
  • Roll them out in round shape and shallow fry them
  • Just be careful while rolling them up in round shapes that these don’t break
  • You may garnish with a dollop of butter
