Bhetki-machher dum/ Slow Cooked Barramundi or Indian Jew Fish

The ‘dum’ or slow, covered cooking makes this dish special as it seals in all the flavours. This is a really simple recipe, but tastes rich and scrumptious with any rice accompaniment.

Ingredients:

  • Bhekti fish (use the middle part of the fish, clean and cut into pieces)

  • Yogurt

  • Mustard paste

  • Salt

  • Sugar

  • Turmeric paste

  • Green chilies

  • Mustard oil

Preparation –

  • In a pan, put the fish along with all the other ingredients.

  • Mix well so that the fish pieces are well coated with the masala.

  • Now put the pan over flame

  • Stir from time to time so that the fish does not burn

  • When the fish is well cooked and nicely coated in the masala and oil, take it off the flame

  • Serve with hot steamed rice
