Green fish pan-cake

We are a fishy family…er I mean we can have fish at any time of the day — this is one way of incorporating fish during breakfast or evening snacks. If planning for breakfast, make sure you prep the night before so that the process of making it does not seem tedious due to the rush of the morning hours. We enjoy this with ketchup — do try this and share how you like them!

Ingredients:

  • Any big white fish — I use rohu or katla (carps) mostly since they are almost always readily available in my kitchen
  • Cumin powder
  •  Turmeric powder
  • Chilli powder
  • Garam masala powder
  • Ginger paste
  • Besan (gram flour)
  • Corn-flour
  • Coriander leaves and green chillies (chopped or ground into paste)
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Oil

Preparation:

  • Boil the fish
  • De-bone when boiled, mash well and keep the stock aside
  • Add all powdered spices, salt, sugar and ginger paste to the fish (the quantity of ginger paste and garam masala powder should be more)
  • Take equal quantities of besan (gram flour) and corn-flour and add it to the stock
  • Add salt, sugar, coriander leaves and green chillies to it and make a batter
  • Add the fish mixture to the batter
  • Add a little water if necessary to make a batter of medium thickness
  • Heat oil in a pan
  • Spoon the batter with a ladle and fry like omelette
  • Serve hot with sauce of your choice
